About Eric

Praised for his musical expressivity and sincerity, Taiwanese-American violinist Eric Chen has won numerous awards, including first prizes in the Cooper International Violin Competition, the Sylvia Lee International Violin Competition, and the Juilliard Pre-college Concerto Competition.

As a soloist, Eric has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Juilliard Pre-college Orchestra, and the Camerata New Jersey Orchestra. He served as Concertmaster of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for two years, during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, including a performance of Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben under the baton of Benjamin Zander.

An avid chamber musician, Eric has collaborated with artists such as Gil Shaham, Areta Zhulla, Donald Weilerstein, and Adele Anthony. Eric has performed at The Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, The Aspen Music Festival, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and is a founder of Project Muse, a chamber music series that provides free concerts to homebound audiences.

Eric received a Bachelor of Music at the New England Conservatory under the guidance of Donald Weilerstein and is currently pursuing his Master of Music at the Juilliard School with Catherine Cho and Donald Weilerstein as a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship. His past mentors include Cho-Liang Lin, Naoko Tanaka, and Stefan Jackiw.
